Deirdra McAfee’s fiction has appeared in Shenandoah, The Georgia Review, Confrontation, Willow Springs, The Diagram, and others, and has been anthologized by The Diagram and the Paycock Press.
In addition to a Pushcart Prize Special Mention, her work has received the NMW Short-Short Prize, AWP’s WC&C Scholarship, the H. E. Francis Prize, the Seattle Review Prize, and Poets & Writers’ Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Prize.
McAfee, a fellow at the VCCA and VCCA–France, MacDowell, Ucross, Ragdale, the Hambidge Center, and elsewhere, has an MFA in fiction from The New School and an MA in English literature from Georgetown. She teaches creative writing at The Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Virginia.
A trained editor, McAfee has edited museum exhibitions as well as nonfiction and fiction. She is co-editor, and a contributor to, Lock & Load, an anthology of American short fiction about guns (forthcoming, fall 2017, University of New Mexico Press).
