ZOLTÃN ÃGOSTON (1966) mainly writes essays on contemporary literature, theater and visual arts. He studied literature and aesthetics at the Janus Pannonius University in Pécs (1985-90). He is editor in chief of the prestigious literary magazine Jelenkor since 1999. Between 1990 and 1992 he was also making cultural TV-programs and short films. He has received Móricz Zsigmond Award in 1995, and Soros Award in 1999. Ãgoston was leader of the association of young writers in Hungary (József Attila Kör) between 1997 and 2000. He was also the editor of a series called Szignatúra, where he published contemporary Hungarian and foreign authors. He was guest editor of several selections of Hungarian literature that were published in Polish, Croatian, Slovakian, Bohemian, Slovenian, Serbian, Austrian and Roumanian magazines. He teached history of culture and aesthetics at the University of Pécs and organized many conferences and cultural gatherings. In 2006 Zoltán Ãgoston published an illustrated interview-book with the sculptor István Bencsik and his followers (Tigers and lions). He worked in the winning project of European Capital of Culture 2010 in Pécs. In connection with this project he published an interview-book in 2011. In The face of the Town Ãgoston together with the famous Hungarian writer György Konrád presented the most important persons of the cultural life in Pécs. In the last few years he wrote feuilletons and short stories.
