I was born and raised in San Francisco. As child I spent many of my days exploring the natural landscape, studying the natural world and engrossed in mythologies that surround our environment. These experiences provided me a deeper understanding of my place within our environment. I attended high school at School of the Arts, San Francisco where I first became exposed to formalized fine art training. After completing high school I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to attended Carnegie Mellon University. My stay in Pittsburgh completely transformed me as an artist and as a person. The relationship that the city formed with the natural and industrial landscapes was intriguing. To see all the destruction and pollution that had made the land unlivable be transformed back into a habitable space changed the way I viewed the world and transformed my work. My stay in Pittsburgh had made me more aware of the relationships within my surrounding environment. Upon my return to San Francisco I continued my observations and study of the industrial and natural landscapes, which continue to influence my practice as a sculptor. I want to make the viewer more aware of their environment and their connection to it.
